2012 Atlantic Business Ethics Award Winner

On November 7, 2012, Sydney Credit Union was awarded the prestigious 2012 Atlantic Business Ethics Award in the 16-50 employee category. The award is granted by the Better Business Bureau of the Atlantic Provinces in recognition of businesses that go beyond the average in maintaining high standards of ethical behaviour. Businesses are evaluated in the areas of responsibility, ethical decision making, ethical initiatives, ethical leadership and environmental sustainability.

Student Loan LOC

In September of 2012, Sydney Credit Union introduced a new product specifically designed for our young members attending university or college. The Sydney Credit Union Student Loan LOC gives them an alternative to conventional student loans offered federally or through the province. The student pays only the interest of Prime + 1% while they are in school with regular payments starting one year after they stop being a student. After graduation, the interest becomes Prime + 2%, still significantly less than the national student loan offer. This reduces the time and payments for the graduate and puts more money in thier pocket.
